 BNSU felicitates Everest Conqueror Krushnna Patil who is the daughter of a seafarer

(June 12, Mumbai) The Bhartiya Navik Sena Union (BNSU) has taken the lead in recognizing the amazing achievement of Ms. Krushnna Patil, the first female mountaineer from Maharashtra to successfully scale Mount Everest on May 21.

At the behest of the BNSU President Mr. Shrikant Sarmalkar, the union office-bearers held a special function on June 12 at their Mumbai office to honour the young achiever who hails from a seafaring family.

19 year-old Krushnna became the first Maharashtrian woman and the second Maharashtrian to conquer the 8,848-metre high peak (Surendra Chavan was the first from the state to achieve this feat as part of an Indian expedition in 1998). Pune-based Patil was part of a commercial expedition organised by the Asian Trekking Agency in Nepal . Her father, Mr. Madhav Manohar Patil works with M/s Northern Marine Ship Management.

Krushnna was presented a memento and a cheque of Rs. 21,000 by Mr. Ajit Yeshwantrao, Vice President, BNSU and Mr. Suresh Salaskar, General Secretary, BNSU. Mr. Nandkumar Baing, Secretary, BNSU and Mr. Ravindra Baing, Treasurer, BNSU were the other office-bearers who keenly lauded Ms. Patil on her unique achievement.

According to Mr. Yeshwantrao, BNSU has always taken the initiative in recognizing the individual achievements of Indian seafarers and their family members. Hence, BNSU office-bearers had decided to felicitate Krushnaa Patil in continuation of this tradition.

In her acceptance speech, Krushnaa expressed her gratitude towards BNSU officials for recognizing her accomplishment and stated that she was proud to be the daughter of a seafarer. She concluded that this moment of pride belonged to the entire seafaring community who supported her throughout her journey as a budding mountaineer.
